The Tower of Babel as a great building of the Bronze Age is one of the first great buildings a player can construct in Forge of Empires. It only takes 150 goods of the Bronte Age and only requires 4 x 4 tiles space. The necessary blueprints can be collected within a few days, e. g. following the advice given in my video about printing your blueprints. It then produces a few goods of the current age every day and provides the possibility to plan completely without residential buildings in the lowest ages. This saves a lot of space. Due to this the motivation to construct this great building might be very high.
I highly recommend players to think twice before they really build the Tower of Babel. As much a very young city benefits from this great building, it is not interesting for players in higher ages of the game. A Tower of Babel brought to level 10 provides 1,140 population. A Condominium, a residential building of the Contemporary Era, provides 2,800 population on the same area, not to mention premium buildings and those of higher ages. In these eras there are great buildings available, providing ten times as much population.
The initial advantage, reducing the number of required residential buildings, is payed by much slower development. Bringing a Tower of Babel to level 10 requires 2,500 forge points. This is as much as all technology development of the next 4 ages require together. Players building the Tower of Babel could have advanced another 4 ages instead or invested the forge points into other great buildings which provide much better benefits.
The 15 goods every day are very humble. Every normal goods building would deliver 25 goods every day using 2 times 8 h productions plus 1 production of 4 hours. There is the direct comparison with the Lighthouse of Alexandria which provides more goods having the same size and a better second bonus which will remain interesting the whole game long.
Considering all this makes the Tower of Babel less interesting.
But recently I built a Tower of babel in one of my cities lately: in my iron Age fighting town, that I introduced in my video about diamond production. Per definition this city will remain permanently in the Iron Age. Then it is a great advantage not to waste space for residential buildings. The whole population is coming from this single great building having a size of 4 x 4 tiles.
