President Donald Trump defended his decision not to tell the head of the House Intelligence Committee about an operation targeting the founder of the Islamic State group, alleging that Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, who has led investigations into the president's conduct, “is the bigger leaker in Washington.” Two days after a raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Trump spoke to reporters on his way to Chicago, and railed against Schiff for the handling of a whistleblower complaint. Trump's phone conversation with Ukraine’s president, during which he requested an investigation into his 2020 political rival Joe Biden and his son, was the impetus for House Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry.
