Credit cards of the future could pose a whole new set of challenges to hackers. The reality is, those credit cards in your wallet with the magnetic strips on the back are technology developed in the 1960’s. And in the 20th-century world with global hackers, that may not be good enough anymore. “I do think that it’s somewhat ironic that this breach apparently was not with the Target website, but rather, with the track data collected from the magnetic strips on the credit cards”, says computer forensic expert, Mark Lanterman. Lanterman says the numbers will mostly likely be sold on the market and be used to make fake credit cards.
