Te Waikorupupu Springs| Anatoki Salmon |Tata Beach | Wainiu Falls - Day 2

We started our day of course with coffee and then headed to one of Golden Bay's top attractions, the Te Waikorupupu Spring or"Pupu" springs for short. Pupu Springs is about a 7 minute drive from Takaka town.This spring is the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand and the largest cold water spring in the Southern Hemisphere. It has one of the clearest water and its clear up to 63 metres deep and it discharges 14,000 litres of water per second. Any form of contact on the springs though is not allowed.


Anatoki Salmon Fishing and Cafe
Then we thought to do something interesting and try to catch our lunch at Anatoki Salmon Farm! Anatoki Salmon Fishing and Cafe is about a 9 minute drive from Takaka, do watch the vlog for the full address. This was a fun way to have fresh lunch. When you arrive at Anatoki, you can grab your free rod, net, bait and bin and head over to the lake and catch them. Once you caught the salmon, they will weigh this and you pay by the kilo. It was $29 per kilo when we went there. Then you can either have it for lunch (smoked or sashimi) or have it smoked and vacuum packed sealed to take away. Takaka town and Dancing Sands Distillery
After lunch we decided to burn off what we ate by doing more walks and sightseeing. We headed to explore Takaka's quaint little town. Golden Bay is known to be home to a number of local artists hence, there we saw heaps of art galleries as we strolled along the town. The town had a bohemian funky feel to it with good amenities for travelers. Check out other things Golden Bay has to offer [ Ссылка ]
Takaka is also home to an award winning gin-Dancing Sands Distillery. They are open from 10am to 4pm, Mondays to Saturdays in summer and Monday to Fridays in winter. They offer free tasting of all their gins. They had interesting gin flavours, such as wasabi gin, sauvignon gin which were all very yummy, we could not choose! Tata Beach
We could not leave Golden Bay without checking out their golden sand beaches so we drove for about 15 minutes from Takaka town to see Tata beach, the weather was not great so we decided to just walk on the shore line. We were absolutely amazed at how golden the sand was. Apparently, the shiny specks on the sand is the washed off granite that dissolved over the years. Pretty cool hey! Also, there were still heaps of mussels on the rocks, as where we live (Auckland) that's a pretty rare occasion nowadays. Just a shame we didn't come prepared otherwise that was dinner for us. Hehe Plenty of activities to do there, such as kayaking. Golden Bay kayaks are the only kayak operation that accesses Abel Tasman National Park from the North actually. Wainui Falls-Abel Tasman National Park
Then we finished off the day by doing another short walk to Wainui Falls and to be officially in New Zealand's smallest national park, the Abel Tasman National Park. Phew that was a jam packed busy day for us! But still there are plenty of things we haven't done. It was good to discover this area and have a feel for it which will help us and hopefully you know what to do when you travel to this region.
