In celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month, the AfriCaribbean Festival team is pleased to announce their upcoming third annual Culture Street Fair, a prelude to their main festival event in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. The Culture Street Fair will take place on June 30th, in Mt Rainier, MD. The AfriCaribbean Festival is a collaborative effort between two neighbors in Maryland. Empress J, resident of Mt. Rainier is an international entertainer and has roots in Barbados. Danna Labor, a small business owner from Sierra Leone, West Africa. The duo's shared love for Soca and Caribbean Carnivals inspired them to bring the positive energy, vibe, and economic impact of these events to West Africa.
The Culture Street Fair is an opportunity for the community to experience what will take place at the main festival event in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It will feature local vendors, local African, Caribbean and Hispanic DJs, fitness groups, artists, and more highlighting the connectivity between the African, Caribbean and Afro-Lantinx communities. The festival will highlight the food, music and pageantry in its celebrations. The fair is free to the public and is supported by the Prince Georgeʼs County Arts and Humanities Council and the City of Mt. Rainier. Through the support of PG Arts and Humanities, the Mayor and City of Mt. Rainier, this yearʼs street fair will be bigger and better than ever and will boast of even more cultural talents and artisans.
