Early Career and Commissioning:
1. Commissioned on 1st July 1987 as a fighter pilot in the Executive branch of the Indian Navy.
2. Served initially as a Staff Pilot in INAS 551, and later as a Qualified Flying Instructor in INAS 300 and INAS 551B.
Key Appointments:
1. Commanded INAS 552, a notable naval air squadron.
2. Captain (Air) INS Hansa (one of India’s prominent naval air stations).
3. President, AIRCATS (Naval Aviation Training Centre).
4. Chief Staff Officer (Air) at Headquarters Naval Aviation.
5. CSO Aviation Training.
As part of the Executive Branch, Commodore Singh served in various afloat appointments, including:

After 34 years of exemplary service to the nation, Commodore Singh superannuated on 31st December 2020, while serving as the Deputy Director General of the NCC Directorate in Odisha.

Lt. Commander Nikhil Kumar Chandrakala (Retd.) served as the Youngest Panelist on the Officers' Selection Board of the Indian Navy. He is the youngest Group Testing Officer to have served in the Indian Armed Forces since 1947!
Lt. Cdr. Nikhil KC (Retd.) has also served in some coveted appointments onboard frigates in the Western Fleet of the Indian Navy, on ships of Killer Squadron, legacy bearer of 1971 war. He was also Aide-De-Camp of the Admiral Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area.
As Captain of the Warship – Indian Naval Immediate Support Vessel T-15, Senior Officer, ISVs (West), he spearheaded a team of 16 officers and 102 men to defend Oil-Field Exploration Areas on the Western Seaboard of India. He and his team were featured in a documentary shot by India Today TV which was aired on National Television on 26 Jan 2017.
