Today on our 2005 Toyota Prius, we're going to be test fitting the Swagman Upright wheel mounted roof bike rack, part number is S64720. We'll begin our test fit by placing the bike rack on top of our vehicle. Our vehicle is equipped with the Thule Rapid Traverse Roof Rack System and that's what we'll be doing our test fit on today. You want to lay it so that the platform lays on top of the crossbar. Swagman equips you with the four wing nuts and two U-bolts. We'll slide that around our bar and up through the holes in the bracket and then secure it with the wing nuts. We'll go ahead and tighten those down working front to back trying to get it tightened evenly.
With that done, we'll move to the other side and do the same steps. Again, we're going to try to get this tightened evenly front to back. In the back, we'll go ahead and pull this up out of our way. It gives you a U-bolt, the two wing nuts and a bracket that's going to go underneath the bar. This U-bolt is going to thread in top to bottom instead of the other way like the front ones did. We left the two nuts here loose that way we could put it 00:02:21 around this crossbar.
As the first time you're doing this, you'll want to do the same. We'll put our U-bolt through, put the plate underneath of it with the flat side against the bottom of the bar and then attach your wing nuts. Then we'll also want to try to tighten this one evenly front to back. Next what we'll need to do is open up our straps, bring this back into position. You want to make sure that the knobs open up all the way and you've got it spaced out. You'll have to actually pull on it to make sure it's spaced 00:03:27 open.
We'll then release our front wheel strap. I've got a ladder here because I'm on the shorter side. You might want to have one at home also. Now we're ready to load our bike. With our bike in position, we'll first start by using the clamp. We'll bring it up and around the frame.
Once you have it fitted around there, you can go ahead and tighten it down by spinning the knob. This is going to hold our bike in place as we tighten the wheel straps. With that done, we'll get our front wheel strap tightened down and then move to our back. Now that we have our bike loaded on our 2005 Toyota Prius, we'll take the Swagman Upright, part number S64720 out on our test course so you can get an idea of what it's going to look like going down the road. Here on our test course, we'll go ahead and take it through the slalom. This will show you the side-to-side action such as sharp corners or evasive maneuvers. Secondly, we'll go through our alternating speed bumps. This will give you the twisting action which simulates potholes, hitting a curb, uneven pavement or hitting road debris. Lastly, we'll go through our solid speed bumps. This will show you the up and down action such as driving through a parking lot, parking garage or out of a driveway that has a steep grade. .
