The government has through the National Security Advisory Committee, ruled out any negotiations with the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) that has been pushing for secession of the Coastal region from Kenya. Acting Internal Security Minister Yusuf Haji said the government was willing to dialogue with the Coastal region people, through their elected leaders, to address their concerns, but would not engage with individuals or groups like MRC. Haji however insisted that the new constitution had already outlined ways of resolving issues of the marginalized across the country. But in sharp contrast to the position taken by the National Security Advisory Committee, Prime Minister Raila Odinga proposed that the government should go ahead to engage with MRC, and other outlawed organizations, if that would ensure peace for Kenyans. Francis Gachuri has that top story.
