Disclaimer: Pay to Win is a problem in society. Explaining why it can be a benefit for anything is no simple task, but in this video, I try to explain why Pay to Win in mmorpgs is a good thing when done well. Keep in mind that Pay to Win is a blanket statement, so talking about all the intricacies of the concept in a single video is impossible and I didn't even try to in this one. In this video I am not talking about all Pay to Win, but I am talking about Pay to Win in mmorpgs, or "massively multiplayer online role play games." I discuss the difference between Pay to Win when done well and Pay to Win when done terribly in the video, but a short summary here for those leaving after reading the description is as follows: "Pay to Win in mmorpgs where players suffer competitive disadvantages in skill-based content such as ranked pvp (player vs player) is trash and I will never approve of it. Pay to Win that is done for pacing purposes allowing players to catch up to pve (player vs environment) content and or get advantages in content where there is no long-term significant reason to rush completing it is a good thing."
In this video I explain why I feel that way as I deep dive into the heart of Pay to Win in mmorpgs and why it has become a thing in every mainstream mmorpg that exists in the modern-day market (and yes every popular mmorpg is pay to win even if players do not want to admit it because at the very least RMT [RMT, or "real money trading" is when players give money to outside sources for money in game and this is very difficult to regulate] is a thing that exists). You probably already knew that this video is from the lense of the YouTuber presenting it and it is by no means something you should take as cold indomitable fact. I hold some bias for and against things as I am merely an organism capable of complex thought. Just because I could formulate my thoughts on the subject into an organized video doesn't mean my opinion is any more valid than your own, but you have to give me credit for at least doing my research and showing that I did experience many of the events in recent gaming history that I referenced in the video. That being said, you should draw your own conclusions on things based off of rational thought, research, and reasoning. And lastly, as a reminder, I am not saying pay to win is a good thing, I am saying pay to win at the time of me publishing this video is a good thing for mmorpgs when done well. I will stand by this until superior proven systems are introduced into the mmorpg market, but as things currently stand in society, I believe we are a long way off from ever getting this, and no, there are zero systems without pay to win in any way shape or form for any internationally massively successful mmorpgs. Feel free to try to find them though, but keep in mind that they do not exist. Also, keep in mind that my definition of an mmorpg, that I explain in the video, may be a bit different than what you consider mmorpgs to be. Anyways, that is it for the disclaimer! Even if you hate me and or the topic of this video, I hope you enjoy(ed) the video!
