(8 Feb 2020) Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday during a visit aimed at improving economic and security ties between the two countries.
Rajapaksa was given a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace ahead of his formal talks with Modi.
This marks Rajapaksa's first foreign trip since assuming office and his visit comes after his brother, the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, visited India in November.
India is one of the largest investors in Sri Lanka with investments of around 1.2 billion US Dollars, according to the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
