avid Bowie super fans can trade "Life on Mars" for "Life on Mustique." The late superstar's hilltop estate in the Caribbean is now available for rent.
Built in 1989 in collaboration with Swedish architect Arne Hasslqvist, The Mandalay Estate is situated on 6.2 acres on the paradisiacal island of Mustique. The lavish Balinese style gem boasts several reception rooms, a dining pavilion, split-level koi pond and waterfalls. All five bedroom suites have their own private veranda leading straight to the infinity pool.
The tropical hideaway was purchased from Bowie in 1995 by poet and publisher Felix Dennis, and most recently was bought by British multi-millionaire entrepreneur (and Bowie fan) Simon Dolan. Despite the changes in ownership, The Mandalay Estate contains most of the original features envisioned by the rock legend, including the card room decorated with mussel shells, and his bamboo-ceilinged recording studio.
A fourteen-person staff is available to wait on guests, who can expect to pay between $40,000 and $70,000 per week to unwind at this peaceful retreat. Check out the extravagant property below.
