Dr John Kongsvik, director of TESOL Trainers, teaches a group of K-12 teachers the Bambara language. Through this experience, educators uncover what truly helps and hinders learning and how teachers can help students cultivate comfort with discomfort as a tool for learning. In this lesson, you will see clear examples of TPR (Total Physical Response), a carousel activity, and a mix and mingle (both movement-based) as a means of practicing language, and a teacher who stays in the target language throughout. You'll see students work in pairs, small and large groups as they practice the language. Above all, you'll see a masterfully scaffolded, student-centered lesson that prepares all participants for success. Dr. Kongsvik trains teachers to work with this level of engagement and student interaction with the language and one another.
