Muslims in the Libyan city of Benghazi have celebrated the end of the fasting month of Ramadan by attending morning prayers.
People arrived with family and friends at a mosque on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
STORYLINE:
Under a clear blue sky, Muslims in Benghazi arrive for morning prayers.
Dozens have come here to take part in Eid al-Fitr prayers, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The imam leads the mosque in prayer.
Eid is traditionally a time for families to come together in celebration.
"I would like to congratulate the entire Libyan community, God willing, Eid Mubarak (happy holiday) to you all and to your families, and may God bless all our martyrs and the ones that we lost in this war," says Ahmed Gebril, a Benghazi Resident.
For those who are gathered here, today's prayer is being dedicated to the Libyan people.
"We ask God for progress, development and prosperity to all the Libyan people everywhere," says Abdelkader Ali, another Benghazi resident.
Eid prayer is an important Islamic tradition which encourages people to follow the example of the Sunnah customs and practices of Islam.
The Eid al-Fitr starts on the first day of the new lunar month and typically lasts for three days.
The Libyan Fatwa House announced that Tuesday was the first day of Eid al-Fitr (June 4) after originally announcing it would be Wednesday (June 5).
The Supreme Court of the Judicial Council and the country's Mufti confirmed a sighting of the crescent moon in the late hours of the night.
