This is our return trip from Oban to our anchorage in Carsaig Bay. We left earlier than originally planned, as there was strong southerly wind forecast and we wanted to avoid having to sail or cruise against it.
As before, we planned for passing abeam Corryvreckan at a time in which the whirlpool and tidal races weren't too strong, but had to compromise with our other aim not to have the tide against us before reaching Carsaig Bay. As a result the sea was rougher crossing Corryvreckan with stronger whirlpools than we experienced previously.
The planning was generally based on the Reeds Nautical Almanac. Our comments and observations, however, should not be used as a substitute for anyone doing their own planning, using up-to-date, appropriate information and documents. Conditions can change and we cannot exclude to have made errors in our calculations and planning.
