This video provides an overview of Cummins Power Generation's family of Tier 4 Interim (Tier 4i) certified after treatment solutions for compliant diesel power generation. Designed to work in tandem with advanced in-cylinder technology, the result is high-horsepower generator sets (680-2750kW) with 30-78 liter engines that not only meet Tier 4i emission requirements, but also are also capable of meeting Tier 4 Final requirements scheduled for 2015.
The basic Tier 4i configuration requires only a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. When more stringent emissions levels are specified, such as Tier 4 Final, the simple addition of an exhaust heater and diesel particular filter (DPF) is all that is required.
Cummins diesel particular filters use proven technology that maximizes particulate reduction while minimizing exhaust flow restrictions. Diesel exhaust fluid ( DEF) is added to the exhaust stream and then thoroughly mixed and passed over a catalyst, converting the pollutants into water, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
The EPA Tier 4i certified configuration is the base platform which consists of a:
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Injection System
Decomposition Reactor Tube
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System
When the exhaust stream reaches 450 degrees Fahrenheit, the DEF injector atop the decomposition reactor tube or DRT injects the appropriate amount of DEF into the exhaust stream. In the DRT, the highly atomized DEF mixes with the exhaust and passes through a turbulator in preparation for the final step, a catalyst bed located further downstream.
THE SCR process is the final step. Insulation wraps the after treatment system from the inlet through the DPF. The result is an efficient and cost effective emission reduction system.
