In mid 1986, Search for Tomorrow was on its last legs, despite being the longest-running daytime television program in history. So, like many of the other Procter & Gamble soaps at the time, it got a facelift both visually and aurally. This opening theme is based on "Somewhere in the Night" by Billy Chinnock, who won an Emmy Award.
