Whilst exploring Indian food in the London borough of Southall, we stumbled upon Gifto's a local institution, a huge restaurant that can seat up to 360 covers in one sitting, a Pakistani restaurant in a majority Indian neighbourhood Gifto's has been serving locals both Indian and Pakistani dishes for many years, its story began when founding brothers Mr. Arshad Mohammad and Mr. Abdul Rahman, opened a grocery store in 1968 to serve the local Asian community. I finally got a chance to do something I've always wanted to and cook my own naan bread in a tandoor oven. We ate two of the house specialties, the iconic dish Peshawari chicken, and another iconic dish who's history remains somewhat elusive to us, Charsi Lamb.
Peshawari Chicken:
chicken meat
onion
garlic
ginger
tomatoes
black peppercorn
coriander seed
cumin seed
chili flakes
salt
yogurt
butter
garam masala
lemon
cilantro
Charsi Lamb:
ghee/butter
lamb meat
salt
garlic
ginger
green chillies
tomatoes
coriander powder
cumin
black pepper
