How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com, and we're taking a look at the Yakima JetStream Crossbars on our 2020 Jeep Cherokee. The Yakima JetStream are aluminum heavy-duty crossbars. These guys are gonna hold up to 165 pounds. However, you definitely wanna make sure you check your vehicle for what the weight rating is for your roof. These guys have a channel on the inside here that allows you to use T-tracks. That's 3/8 inch wide.
You would just push down and you can slide it down this channel so you can use eye loops or any other tie-down devices. The bar itself is gonna be a little bit right at three inches, a little bit under one inch as far as your thickness. So that's gonna work with most clamp-style carriers. You're at 4 1/2 inches from the roof. So if you have anything that claws around, you'll definitely be able to clear the bottom of your ramp.
As far as your lock cores, if you have Yakima products or you would like everything to be keyed alike, you can use the Yakima same key system. In general, these are some really solid crossbars that are gonna have the arrow design that cuts through the air a lot easier. It's shaped like a wing, and what that does is gonna go through the air a lot easier with less resistance, reducing the wind noise that you have. So now that we've taken a look at some of the features of the sky, let me show you how to put it on your Cherokee. Using a measurement that we came up with as far as the distance between our raised rails, it's about 41 inches.
So you can use the ruler that's already engraved onto our crossbar, and that'll give you an idea of where you need to position your feet. You're gonna pull the tab and remove your end cap, and you're gonna align the center line with your measurement space on the ruler. So I'm gonna go all the way across, making sure that the rubber strap is gonna face the outside. And we're just gonna get this down into the channel and slide this guy over. Right, and you can just make sure that you have your fasteners pointed towards the outside, strapped towards the inside 'cause this is actually what's gonna wrap around your raised rail.
We're gonna do the same thing on the other side. All right, and once you have the center line here lined up with your measurement point, we're gonna tighten down this one screw. This is one of the three screws that you're gonna need to fasten your your foot into position, just enough where it just stabilizes it, but not so much where you can't reposition a little bit. And now, we have our feet on. We're gonna reach over our vehicle and rest on the raised rail and then work our rubber strap over and fasten it into place. Now, as far as your crossbar spread, this is where you're gonna set it. And per the install guide is 24 inches minimum between the bars. So we'll set it at 24 inches. And we're 24 on sensor. So now, we can take our included Yakima torque wrench and we're gonna tighten the inside screw here and the lower screw that pulls in the rubber strap that's actually grabs around your raised rail, and that's what's gonna give you your connection to the vehicle. These guys do sit up a little bit higher, but this is one of the easier installations that we have. And depending on the item that you have, you're able to set up your crossbar spread. However, due to the fact there aren't any fixed mounting points, and essentially you're just gonna turn until you hear the click from the torque wrench, and that's when you know you got to the required amount of torque. (tool clicks) So once you hear your click, you know you're good. We're gonna put our cover over all of our fasteners, right We're gonna pop this guy, the end cap on, and we're done. This has been a look at the Yakima JetStreams on our 2021 Jeep Cherokee. Have a great day.
