A film by Andrea Camerini & Laura Di Nitto
Produced by Auromedia - a unit of Sri Aurobindo Society (2013)
This is the story of a two days workshop of the series "music arts & media for peace". The activity was held in a very disadvantaged area of New Delhi where the young non governmental organization "Rhythm of Life" is operating for giving opportunities, education and fun to a large number of children living in the place.
The media education workshop "Open Your Eyes!" aims to empower children in understanding the media and becoming able to create their own contents and forms.
We want children to see with their own eyes and to tell stories with their perspective.
Media literacy is the new literacy of the millennium: reading and writing is no more enough, we all have to learn how to convey our ideas and values through mass media and social media. In this short documentation of this experience, one can enjoy seeing children who start speaking up, taking position, making statements according to their real needs and feelings.
We don't need to ask adults how a child feels or what he thinks. We have to help the child express him/herself as much as possible with the means available.
Music Arts and Media are important means of peace-building, self and mutual understanding and artistic experience.
Can we call it holistic approach to media?
Acknowledgments:
