In war-torn northern Afghanistan, families in the town of
Djabam-us-Sardzhe are doing their best to cope while husbands
and fathers are fighting at the front.
In the areas still under the control of the troops of Ahmed Shah
Massood, mothers are keeping the ramshackle schools open and
lessons running. They fear the advance of the Taleban militias,
who have already closed down a number of educational
institutions.
