See inside the mouth of moray eel and discover underwater domain secrets. The Great Green moray eel (Gymnothorax funebris) can reache more than 8 feet, and Spotted moray eel (Gymnothorax moringa) like this reach 4 feet, these fish resemble snakes, have smooth scaleless skin. The narrow, muscular jaws can drive the fanglike teeth deeply into anything they grasp and a bite may follow serious infection. Largely nocturnal and secretive by nature, morays hide in cervices and under coral ledges. They are harmless to humans and are key elements for the marine environment. Morays should never be eaten, since some individuals of all species are capable of causing severe food poisoning or even death.
