Yeast activation is usually done to check if the yeast is capable of rising your bread. Testing it will let you know if the yeast is alive or working. You do not need hot milk to activate yeast. So make sure to use room temperature milk. If your yeast mixture is not foamy after 10 minutes, then the yeast is old and won't rise your bread.
To activate yeast with milk, you need the following:
7g of yeast (1 small pack)
1 cup of milk
1/2 cup sugar
