Tehran's theatre is one of the most famous cultural monuments in the capital, which hosts various performing groups throughout the year. Tehran Theater opened on January 28, 1973 and the play "Cherry Garden" by Antoine Chekhov directed by Arby Evansian was the opening performance of Tehran's theatre.
The city's theatre building has the desired and standard facilities needed to perform today's performances, and various sections of lighting, sound, installations, face-painting, décor transportation, Oxsavar and stage design are operating in Tehran's theatre complex. Other floors also include recreational and service facilities such as cafeterias, administrative and administrative departments and specialized libraries.
Due to the exclusive use of Tehran Theater Complex for performing the play, the city's theatre can be considered as the most important cultural building in the field of drama. The architecture of this work and the historical significance of the building of Tehran's theatre building also add to the importance of this cultural-artistic complex.
Prior to the construction of the city's theater complex, the building was located in the "Baladiyah Guest House" building or municipal café, which was a place for entertaining and spending leisure time for Citizens of Tehran. The guest house was built in 1920. There were performances in the outdoor area around the municipal café, and various bands, such as The Rain Circus, performed. The municipal café was also a suitable hangout for prominent writers, poets and artists such as Forough Farrokhzad and Jalal Ale Ahmad.
In the 1960s, performance groups expanded further and performance art was flourishing. Among the most prominent theatre artists of the time are Akbar Radi, Arby Anasian, GholamHossein Saedi, Bahram Beyzaie, Bahman Mofid, Parviz Sayyad, Ezzatollah Entezami, and Ali Nasirian. The increase in the number of shows caused a shortage of theaters and the need to create a theatre equipped with a dedicated use for the performance was felt
Finally, in 1967, with the provision of the required facilities, the design and construction of the city's theatre building began. The construction of the building was led by prominent Iranian engineers who were students of the famous Iranian architect Houshang Seyhoun. After five years, the city's main theater was put into operation. Hall 4 su and Hall Number Two were also put into operation shortly thereafter. Halls, sections and grounds around the city's theatre building were added over time
Today, the city's theatre is known as one of the most important theatrical centers in Tehran and Iran, and its beautiful building, which is showing off among Tehran's Student Park, is one of tehran's most interesting buildings. In the first years, the tehran theater complex was under the supervision of the Shiraz Art Festival Organization under the direct supervision of Farah Pahlavi, but then it was handed over to the National Radio Television Organization of Iran.
