Democrat Raphael Warnock has defeated Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a historic Senate runoff race that gives Georgia’s its first-ever Black Senator and, along with the race currently tied between Jon Ossoff and Sen. David Perdue, could put Democrats in a position to take control of the Senate."In this moment, Washington has a choice to make, in fact all of us have a choice to make: Will we continue to divide, distract, and dishonor one another or will we love one another as we love ourselves?" Warnock said. Warnock is a pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. preached and civil rights icon John Lewis worshipped. Throughout the race, Loeffler painted Warnock as a socialist or “radically liberal” while remaining loyal to President Donald Trump. She, along with Perdue, have both indulged Trump’s baseless election conspiracy theories, many of which were targeted at Georgia because it also flipped for Joe Biden in the presidential race. Ossoff’s team said in a statement early Wednesday morning that they “fully expect” that Ossoff will win the election when all the votes are counted. “The outstanding vote is squarely in parts of the state where Jon’s performance has been dominant,” the statement read.
