(7 Aug 2018) Kenya and Tanzania marked on Tuesday the 20th anniversary of the al-Qaeda bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam that killed 224 people and injured more than 5,000.
Twelve Americans were among the dead.
Mourners lit candles to remember the victims at Nairobi's August 7th Memorial Park.
US ambassador Robert Godec and Kenyan envoy Martin Kimani were among those who laid wreathes at the memorial wall where victims' names are engraved.
Speaking during the ceremony, Godec condemned "al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups" for their continuous "savage assault on humanity" in the years since the 1998 bombings.
