My memories of Java are full of fun little stories of people taking pictures with us, even if the place itself seemed like a bit of a drag at the time. I hate it when people overuse "off the beaten track", especially in countries with huge cities and intercity transport links, but Java really did feel off the beaten track after some of the places we had been. I still don't really get why people wanted selfies with us, but we saw a lot of cool things travelling across this island.

We travelled across Java by rail, including Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Malang, using the train stations and public transport, and we saw Borobudur.
