The Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction is a once-every-decade event that will shape the world of the next 10 to 15 years.
More than 8000 Heads of State, Ministers, mayors, CEOs and members of the Civil Society are expected to attend the Conference and to adopt a new framework for action that will make the planet and its people more resilient against disasters.
"The development road map in the year ahead has four crucial stops. First, in March, in Sendai, Japan, the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction can set a course to greater resilience. Second, in July in Addis Ababa, we can agree on financing and investments that are crucial for growth and for the credibility of the new development path. Third, in September here in New York, we can adopt a bold, new and integrated agenda for sustainable development. And fourth, in December in Paris, we can ensure a meaningful, ambitious and universal climate change agreement." said the UN Secretary-General (on 8 January).
