국내 코로나바이러스 16번째 확진자 발생
We start with the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea...
Earlier today, the country confirmed one more new case, which brings the total number to 16.
This is the first case reported since Sunday when there were three more cases.
With more on that, our Kan Hyeong-woo is on the line.
Hyeong-woo, what's the latest?
Devin, so the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed a 16th case of the coronavirus in South Korea.
The patient is a 42-year-old Korean woman.
She came back to Korea after a trip to Thailand on January 19th.
The patient had been getting chills since January 25th... before going to Chonnam National University Hospital in Gwangju yesterday.
After testing positive for the coronavirus earlier today, she's been quarantined.
The health authorities are trying to figure out where she went and who she's been in contact with.
"We are disclosing the movements of the confirmed patients to let the citizens know whether they could've been exposed to the virus. So they can watch their status more closely and quickly take the necessary steps if any symptoms are found."
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the first fifteen patients with the virus are all in a stable condition.
The health authorities have run infection tests on 607 people with symptoms.
462 of those tests have come out negative and those people have been released from quarantine.
The Korean government is also closely watching 1318 people who have been in contact with the confirmed patients.
So we have strong quarantine measures in place. What else are the authorities doing?
So the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has approved a faster way to detect the coronavirus.
The current method requires a 24-hour two-step process to determine the infection.
But the new diagnostic test kit named 'Real time-PCR' can find out whether a person has the virus in only 6 hours.
It's developed and produced by Seoul-based Kogen Biotech.
Starting Friday,... the government plans to provide the new diagnostic test kit in 50 medical institutions across the nation.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it expects the latest measure will strengthen the monitoring ability of local governments.
That's all from me for now. But I will bring you the latest updates in our later newscast.
