Around 3:40pm on March 5th, 2022, Freddie Bryant and I witnessed a funnel cloud just east of Corning, Iowa. We later learned that another storm chaser closer to it confirmed it had touched down and lofted debris.
This supercell would later go on to produce tornadoes in Winterset, Norwalk, Avon, and Newton, though it may have been one long tracked tornado.
Unfortunately we were unable to keep up with the storm after this due to its fast movement and uncooperative road network, we ended up about 10 minutes behind it and drove through fresh damage paths in Winterset and Avon. I caught back up to it north of Grinnell as a large rainwrapped wedge crossed the road directly in front of me after dark.
