In our tasting today Wine Searcher's Wine Director, Master of Wine David Allen, continues with his tasting of 2022 wines from Bordeaux. These wines have been kindly supplied by Bee Bordeaux, a Bordeaux winemaking consultancy. The wine David is looking at today at the second wine from leading Lalande de Pomerol La Fleur de Bouard - owned by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest of famed Saint Emilion estate Chateau Angelus - the wine is Le Lion de La Fleur de Bouard Lalande de Pomerol 2022.
Château la Fleur de Boüard is a Bordeaux Right Bank winery in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. It produces several Merlot-dominant cuvées and is known for its unique state-of-the-art winery.
Hubert de Boüard purchased the 25 hectare (62 acre) property in 1998. The Laforest family owns a handful of Bordeaux estates, the best known of which are in Saint-Émilion and include the Premier Grand Cru Classé A winery Château Angélus.
The vineyard is planted roughly to 80-percent Merlot, 15-percent Cabernet Franc and 5-percent Cabernet Sauvignon and the blend of the La Fleur de Boüard grand vin reflects a similar ratio.
The second wine was previously called La Fleur Saint Georges after the name of the property before it was bought by de Boüard, however it has since been relabelled as Le Lion de la Fleur Boüard.
The winery also makes a third wine called Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard. The inaugural 2000 vintage debuted with a 99 point score from critic Robert Parker.
