Reducing dependence on Russia for energy? Rapid climate changes? Toxic smog and poor air quality? Or maybe the so-called junk crisis?
The protection of climate and the environment is one of the biggest challenges that we are going to face in the next few decades. European Environment Agency claims that in 2014 alone poor air quality resulted in more than 500,000 premature deaths in the European Union. Moreover, as European Environment Agency reports, the temperature in Europe rose from 1.7°C (2010) to 1.9°C (2019). Another problem that Europeans face is the dependence on Russian energy which results in financing a government that started an invasion on Ukraine. Which energy sources may replace Russian gas and oil?
These burning issues were discussed with Mr. Bas Eickhout, a Dutch politician, chemist, and Member of the European Parliament since 2009, and Jakub Wiech, a Polish economic journalist, lawyer, and the deputy editor-in-chief of Energetyka24.
