검찰, 박근혜 전대통령 내일 소환날짜 통보키로
Korea's state prosecutors are expected to notify the public today... of when they plan to summon the disgraced former leader, Park Geun-hye for questioning... over her involvement in the massive corruption case that brought her political career crashing down.
Park, who no longer holds immunity as the president, could now face arrest as well.
Shin Se-min reports.
It appears that former President Park Geun-hye may face prosecution soon.
A special team of prosecutors who took over the probe led by independent counsel Park Young-soo said it will decide Wednesday on when they will call in the ex-President for questioning... on allegations that include bribery and abuse of power.
So far, she is facing 13 criminal charges and has denied all of them.
The impeached president is accused of allowing her confidante Choi Soon-sil to meddle in state affairs. She also is accused of colluding with Choi in extorting large sums of money from major Korean conglomerates.
Prosecutors on Tuesday said the ex-president will be summoned as a suspect,... and the to-be-announced date is non-negotiable.
It has not yet been decided, whether the ousted president will stand before the press when she arrives at the prosecutor's office.
If she does, she will be the third former president to be in that position.
In 1995, former president Roh Tae-woo was summoned over suspicions that he had created slush funds, while former and late president Noh Moo-hyun did likewise over allegations of bribery in 2009.
Although ex-president Park is now stripped from immunity, there's still a possibility that she will not appear for the questioning, as she has a record of refusing to comply with requests from both state prosecutors and the independent counsel.
