It started as a simple online push to create potato salad, now it's known as Potato Stock 2014. Local 15 News reported about a man named Zack Brown who posted a Kickstarter project to raise money to make the side dish.
It quickly grew and now it sits at just over $55,000 with more than 6,000 backers. Brown only needed $10, so what's he doing with all the extra cash?
Brown is hosting a potato salad themed festival with all proceeds going to charity.
"When we set out to make potato salad, we couldn't say yes to every ingredient. And there are a thousand no's for every yes. Every ingredient had to have a reason to be there. And we had to ask ourselves, what's important here. Consistency, taste, texture," Brown said.
Potato Stock 2014 is September 27 in Ohio. It's free and all proceeds from concessions will go to a permanent fund to end hunger and homelessness in central Ohio.
Brown still needs a musical headliner and he's promising to say their names while making potato salad, that's payment for performing.
