The Leopard orchid is probably the most well known and recognisable of continental Africa's epiphytic orchids. Its vast range led to a number of names, now all placed into synonymy under Ansellia africana. It can be variable in the shape and size of its pseudobulbs, leaves, inflorescences and flowers; but, in all cases they are all recognizable.
It's always nice to come across this orchid in flower and see the variation within a population. I have grown Ansellia from seed in the last few years and having variety within the population that I am building at the farm will be enhanced if I can collect and grow some seedlings of this specimen. Fingers crossed!
