In this video I *WILL* show (1) The box, (2) Lamination (3) Flesh /skin colour / tones. What I am *NOT* doing here is a complete flip though. BUT, I will have a comparison video coming up, which will compare (1) this 1971 Rider & Co, (2) US Games' early 1970s pre-copyright "Tarocco Rider Waite" (both printed by AG Muller & Cie in Switzerland), and (3) AGM-Urania's (Switzerland, Germany, Belgium) Tarot of AE Waite from 2017 (printed in Germany)
I had started looking into RWS decks when I decided that I *need* to obtain a good reproduction of the early 1900s version by William Rider & Son. (Dec 1909 - 1920) for my reference library. How much of a unicorn this is, was mind boggling to me at the beginning, given how many amazing reproductions are available for many other historical decks from the 1400s all the way to the 1800s. The reality of capitalism, as well as corporate colonization by way of legal warfare were something I had thoroughly underestimated. After my initial search, I happily found the Tarot of AE Waite, that wonderful edition by AGM-Urania, high recommended it to anyone who wanted to listen, and quickly found out almost immediately after, that the English edition had became a bit of a unicorn, again, thanks to the same corporate forces (*I curse you, you know who*). A kind generous viewer in Wales gifted me her spare 1993 edition of the "original" with lilies and roses backs (from Dec 1909), by Rider Books, which of course bears the USG copyrighted images. Much better rendered that the infamous "blotchy original", which I have since gifted away to a happy camper, this particular edition has contentedly filled that category of my collection. So, the hunt for the perfect crackle back Pam A 1910-1920 reproduction continues. There actually isn't one, yet. But this hopeful hunt took me to this "blue box", and all the info surrounding Rider & Co's last productions in the 1970s.
This one is not a bargain, not pristine, no white booklet, stained, creased, and dirty (not at all as described). But at least I can actually relish in the pleasure of shuffling this and actually use it from time to time, without any fear of damaging it, because in my mind, this has already been done :/ :)
If you need help with your blue box or any other Rider Waite Smith vintage decks, check out this website, it also has tons of info about the Rider Waite Smith tarot:
