Though “Good Love” was never released as a single, it remains a standout from Anita’s second major label album Giving You The Best That I Got. The moody midtempo ballad about a longing for romantic connection was written by Gary Taylor.
The vocalist who originally recorded the demo for Anita to evaluate was then-unknown soul singer Lalah Hathaway. Lalah would launch an impressive solo career with the Gary Taylor-penned “I’m Coming Back,” and come full circle to eventually win a Grammy another Anita Baker classic, “Angel.”
“Good Love” got a huge boost in profile a decade later as hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest scored a sizable hit with “Stressed Out” featuring Faith Evans resinging new lyrics to the chorus of “Good Love.”
