Heavy snow from Storm Filomena left more than 400 roads closed and trapped people in their cars overnight in Madrid, Spain, on January 9 2021.
This clip, posted on Twitter by Alvaro Ruiz, shows people having a snowball fight in Plaza de Callao in the center of Madrid.
“Neighbors gathered spontaneously to start a snowball fight between strangers,” Ruiz told Storyful.
Local news reported that the snowfall was the biggest in half a century, as Madrid City Council urged people to stay in their homes due to the “emergency situation.”
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issued a special notice until January 10, warning of heavy snowfall in several parts of the country.
