Feature comparison against the Yaesu FT-4XR, Yaesu FT-65R, Yaesu FT-70R and the Alinco DJ-500TB included. This is a beginner friendly walk through of the basic analog features of the Alinco DJ-MD5XTG transceiver and the setup needed to get it working over simplex using VFO mode and with a repeater. Note that as a new HAM I have used the TX Prohibit feature heavily. This is a feature packed Amateur Radio.
While Analog APRS was a key factor in my selection, I have not yet explored that feature in detail. I hope to provide an update in a future video to include Digital modes, DMR and Analog/Digital APRS.
I hear this radio is similar to the Anytone D878 and would like to get some feedback from those who are familiar with the Anytone.

Most HTs have only one VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator), but can do dual watch by time slicing the VFO between the two frequencies.
There are other videos that cover advanced programming, codeplugs, firmware update, factory reset etc. In particular, check out the K3NYJ Patrick channel: [ Ссылка ]
I found that the internal mic VOX does not activate as shipped. You will need to use the codeplug editor or use an external mic. I reached out to Remtronix and they were very prompt in helping me out.
And a shout out to DX Engineering (no affiliation) for their excellent post sales support. They were always willing to help me with my many questions.
Having the analog and digital APRS makes this useful for applications like hiking, mountain biking, overlanding, off-road, camping, boating, VanLife, RV etc.
