You often buy clothing such as dresses, skirts and pants that have an invisible zipper installed poorly.
Or you’ve only learned to install invisible zippers with two stitch lines along the teeth, it’s really worth taking a few minutes to do this extra step.
This will strengthen the seam at the bottom of the zip by putting the stress on the ribbon and not on the seam stitching.
If you sew professionally, this will avoid re-do’s and wasted time if your zipper installation isn’t as strong.
( will also avoid Unhappy customers returning...)
Stitch a thin piece of ribbon, cotton tape, narrow elastic or even some scrap fabric right beside both sides of the teeth, approx ½” above the seam opening
Then stitch along the entire edge of the zipper tape right down to the end. Stitching right to the end of the zipper tape will prevent it from lifting when pulling up the slider.
Always hold the base of the invisible zipper when pulling the slider up.
Invisible zippers look fantastic when installed properly but they are delicate.
Make sure to use this method when sewing and making pants, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits and shorts.
