We finally reached the southern Italian city of Bari, and today, we visited a small town outside Bari, to see the famous structures of Trulli Alberobello.

The trulli of Alberobello are distinctive houses in the town of Alberobello, Italy. These limestone dwellings are corbelled dry-stone construction - a prehistoric building technique still in use in Puglia. These Trulli houses Alberobello are currently protected, and the whole town of Alberobello is a designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Alberobello Trulli houses were built in the 14th century and purposely without mortar to avoid paying property tax. Their individual corbelled limestone slabs could be easily dissembled when the tax collector came to check - a clever tax evasion scheme in the 14th century!

Alberobello has two main trulli districts - Rione Monti and Aia Piccola. Both have plentiful architectural examples of trulli houses in Puglia.
