Performed by the group Anush Hngyak.
This is an Armenian folk song from the regions around Lake Van. It is dedicated to the Fedayi who fought in the famous "Battle of the Mill" in 1890.
Arakel and Mushegh were Fedayi in Chartar's group. The Turkish army had been sent to end their activities, as such they were on the run. The Turkish-Kurdish army, taking the night by surprise, surrounded the Hayduks. Arakel, Mushegh, Aryuts Avag and Balabekh Karapet participated in this battle. Arakel showed great courage and strategic skills in this bloody battle, as a result of which the group avoided being surrounded.
As darkness fell, the Hayduks descended from the mountain and moved towards Manazkert. At Manazkert, the Hayduk group fortified itself in a ruined water mill. Although the Turkish and Kurdish soldiers outnumbered the Chartar group many times, they suffered a humiliating defeat. The Hayduks suffered 5-6 casualties, while the enemy lost more than a hundred soldiers on the battlefield. As darkness fell, they left the mill and after a victorious battle, climbed Mount Nemrut , where the battles continued for another 2 days and ended with another victory for the Hayduk group. After the defeat, the Turkish troops withdrew to Akhlat.
