Blue Note Records is responsible for some of the greatest jazz albums of all time, made by artists like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan and many others.
The documentary "Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes," directed by Sophie Huber, shows how two refugees from Nazi Germany founded the label, and vital contributions the company has made to the musical art form. Nonfictionfilm.com editor Matt Carey spoke with Huber and musician/hip hop producer Terrace Martin, who is featured in the film.
