Now for some recap;
This game was recommended to me by a friend, and it turned out to be pretty fun. I've watched some of the DBZ anime, but far from every episode.
The game starts off right after the Piccolo Jr. Saga - the end of the original Dragon Ball series - hopping straight into the Raditz & Vegeta saga (known as the Saiyan Saga in this game).
Saga 1 is a nice way to start things off, introducing you to the open world gameplay. The game takes a significant difficulty spike at the first Raditz battle. Because of that Nappa & Vegeta feel like pushovers. Saga 1 is the shortest of them all, and there isn't a whole lot to say about it.
Saga 2:
aka, the Frieza Saga. This saga is significantly longer than the first, and takes place on planet Namek. Personally, I prefer this saga over the first one, as it offers more gameplay variety and interesting story imo. Or maybe it's just cause Frieza is my favorite DB antagonist...
Speaking of Frieza, he's surprisingly easy in this saga, meanwhile bosses such as Dodoria feel a lot harder.
Saga 3:
This is where - in my opinion - the combat started to get rather boring, and the fact that this saga just goes on and on doesn't help either. The saga itself is fine, and has interesting characters to offer (i.e. Android 17 + 18, Trunks and Cell), but at times it felt like it just kept dragging itself out and out, even more so than Dragon Ball already does.
Saga 4:
Probably my favorite saga. Especially the beginning where Gohan attends high school as a youngster, giving me Persona vibes. While this saga goes on for a long time too, it doesn't have as many bosses luckily, and mainly relies on cutscenes and storytelling. I'll say though that fighting Majin/Kid Buu like 14 times felt a bit overkill.
All with all I enjoyed my time with the game, but at the same time I was glad to be done with it. While I'm sure that playing through the game twice didn't do me any favors, the fighting got really tedious at times.
The cutscenes however are beautifully animated, and as it had been a while since I watched the series I didn't mind re-watching them. I used the Japanese dub with English sub, however, you can do English dub too.
