Members of civil society and farmers in some parts of the country want the bio-safety bill in parliament withdrawn on grounds that it is weak and unable to govern the use of genetically modified organisms. The groups claim that GMOâs are cancerous and they will also endanger indigenous varieties. However, the same groups support the alternative biotechnology and bio-safety bill which they say is more comprehensive.
