Lung cancer is often called a silent killer. Air pollution, cooking over open fire, or genetic mutations are among contributory factors that can cause lung cancer, particularly in young non-smoking women in Asia. Ms. Ming Zhang is one of those affected.
During a routine physical check-up, her physicians discovered a nodule in her right lung and confirmed that it was a malignant early-stage lung tumor. In the past what would have followed was the removal of the lung nodule in two separate steps at different times: a very complicated and uncomfortable process for patients says Professor Yin-Kai Chao. So he and his team at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan, Taiwan, wanted to find a simpler and better solution - and they did introducing a minimally invasive procedure that can locate and remove lung cancer tumors in a single step.
