STORYLINE
Dozens of anarchists demonstrated briefly against the Group of Eight summit in St. Petersburg on Sunday before police hauled them away.
About 30 self-professed anarchists tried to block traffic on central St. Petersburg's main street, Nevsky Prospekt, jumping into traffic and unfurling banners before being detained by police less than two minutes later.
At least some of the protesters were shouting in Ukrainian.
More than twenty protesters have been detained and taken to police station for investigation.
Two AP reporters - cameraman and photographer - were among the detainees.
Security officials and police contacted at the police station said the reporters were "among the protesters", giving this as a reason for their detention.
They were quickly released after the interference of their colleagues who were asked to confirm their identities.
Both detained reporters carried on them official accreditation badges issued by the G-8 summit organising committee.
Elsewhere, at least three other protesters - one of whom had been carrying a flare - were seen being detained early on Sunday outside one of two hotels where the summit organisers are housing journalists.
The Kremlin, determined to keep a lid on demonstrations during the summit, has allowed protesters to gather only at a stadium about 15 kilometres (9 miles) from the city centre.
