Loreto, Italy Walking Tour: Basilica, Views & Cultural Gems of a major pilgrimage destination
Famous destination for Catholic pilgrims, Loreto hosts the supposed House of Mary, transported by the angels from Nazareth (Palestine) to Italy. The Santa Casa ("Holy house") is hosted inside a major Christian Catholic basilica and it's covered by marble sculptures.
Loreto is a major destination for pilgrimages and therefore it's full of religious souvenir shops. It's built in a hilltop, surrounded by a typical Italian landscape.
Close to it, in the Ancona province (Marche region), the beaches of the Conero mountains.
The Basilica della Santa Casa (English: Basilica of the Holy House) is a Marian shrine in Loreto, in the Marches, Italy. The basilica is known for enshrining the house in which the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed by some Catholics to have lived.
