live updates on television | express train met with an accident near Bahanaga railway station in Odisha's Balasore district. As per the latest information available, eight bogies of the 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed after colliding with a goods train near Bahanaga Station.
Three teams of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and four units of Odisha's DRF along with 60 ambulances have been mobilized for the search and rescue operation.
"Collector, Balasore has also been directed to reach the spot to make all necessary arrangements and intimate the SRC if any additional help is required from the state level," Special Relief Commissioner Office said.
The train originates from Shalimar station in West Bengal and ends at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station in Chennai. The train started its journey at 3.30pm and arrived at Balasore station at 6.30pm. It was scheduled to reach Chennai tomorrow at 4.50pm.
The movement on both up and down lines on the route has been affected by the accident as the train derailed and obstructed the other line.
