I was on a call today and we were having a chat about marketing and my thoughts on it. And she actually asked me “-- is this one of your Lives? Cause this is extremely valuable information.” I said no, but I think it could be! So, I decided to hop on here and give you my marketing musings for today.
I didn't have a specific topic in mind. Just overall general marketing, and I guess a little bit specifically about Facebook. I'm Jennifer Tamborski, CEO and chief strategist here at Virtual Marketing Experts.
One of the conversations that I was having this afternoon relates to why hiring an expert, or hiring a team or a coach, really can help you with your business. Oftentimes when we're working in our business, we miss things that are right in front of our face. Especially when it comes to marketing.
We can forget about some of the opportunities that we have in our business.
What we were talking about, I was just having virtual coffee, and we were talking about marketing. We were specifically talking about Facebook Ads. Because I don't know if you know, but right now Facebook Ads are incredibly inexpensive. I think I've heard calculations that the cost per lead right now are somewhere in the neighborhood of what it was about five years ago.
Because you have a captive audience, so many people are on Facebook, your marketing dollars can go so much further here. What we were really talking about was that oftentimes, when people try things in their business, when they try marketing, they don't give it enough time to really kind of get the information they need to grow, or to learn.
I did a Facebook Live a little bit ago where I said marketing is both art and science. They are not allowing the science of marketing to accelerate. Without that, it is very hard to know what's working and what's not. What I see are people who will run ads for a week. And let's say they may or may not have a specific customer journey in mind when they run the ads. If they don't, those ads tend to end up being more money wasted than effective use of their marketing dollars. If they have a specific customer journey and they run ads for a week and they don't see the results that they think they should…Here's the reality.
A couple of things about marketing in general, but Facebook Ads specifically. When you are writing ads, if you have never run ads before and you do not have a huge audience that you've already developed, it takes some time for Facebook's analytics to catch up and to understand who your target audiences is and who you want to connect with. And oftentimes what I see is people turn off ads before they even have enough data to see what's going on.
When you have a customer journey, like a sales funnel in place, and you run ads to it for a week and you've had maybe 5, 10, 15, maybe 30 people go through it in that week, you still do not have enough data to understand what's working and what's not. By having somebody from the outside looking in, that can really look at you and say -- slow down, okay, we know where we're going. Give us some time so that we can figure out what's working and what's not.
We don't want to change everything at once because again, you won't know what works. So allowing those experts, your teammates, to really help you through the process of, maybe some anxiety and whether or not you're doing the right thing and if your message is right and all of those thoughts that come into your head when you're trying something new, can really help you to move your business forward.
Whether it's in marketing or it's in just in your business in general. Having somebody that has your back that can look at you and say, have you looked at this opportunity, or is there something else in your business that can be more effective and a better use of your time, is really helpful. Having a team in place to help you grow your business will really help accelerate that business, as opposed to trying to do it all yourself.
I'm going to give you a piece of advice when it comes to Facebook ads. I know that sometimes Facebook Ads are trial and error, especially if you're doing it yourself. You can waste a lot of money in Facebook Ads if you don't know what you're doing. If you have not started running Facebook Ads, if you've never done it for your business, keep in mind that it may be more cost effective to hire somebody who knows what they're doing, than wasting money on your own.
That's where I see a lot of people struggling, especially right now. There's so much fear about the unknown, about what's coming, that they're afraid to invest in their business. And right now, there's no better time than right now to invest in your business. Now is the time to really look at your business and see where you want to take it and make the investments necessary in order to get there.
