The Church of England has consecrated its first female bishop. The ceremony wasn’t without protest, Reverend Paul Williamson interrupted proceedings by shouting “Is it now your will that she should be ordained?”, before pointing to the bible as justification for his actions. Still, the consecration went on, and 48-year-old Libby Lane was ordained as Bishop of Stockport in front of 2,000 people at York Minster, in northern England. The move was made possible after years of debate culminated in new legislation, adopted late last year.
